Chimney flashing leak repair
Roof repairWashington Park, Denver
A persistent leak beside a brick chimney, traced to failed step flashing and rebuilt with new copper flashing and a cricket to divert water.
Two previous contractors had tried to fix this leak with caulk. Water kept finding its way into the living room every time it rained, staining the ceiling beside the fireplace.
What we did
- Removed the shingles around the chimney and traced the leak to rusted step flashing
- Installed new copper step flashing woven into each shingle course
- Cut a reglet into the mortar joints for proper counter flashing
- Built a small cricket behind the chimney so water flows around it, not into it
The result
No caulk, no patches, and a dry living room through every storm since.
